The mother of a missing university chef said her daughter turned down the offer of money to pay for a taxi before she disappeared while walking to work. A missing university chef may have "come to some harm", detectives investigating her disappearance have revealed.

Detectives said her disappearance was "completely out of character" and fear she may have been abducted. Det Supt Ray Galloway said she had not been in touch with family or friends since 2030 GMT that night and appealed for the public's help.
Her mother Joan said her daughter had recently started walking the three miles to work after her car broke down. "I have significant cause for concern [for] her well-being", he said.
Poster appeal
Mrs Lawrence, of Norton, North Yorkshire, said: "I was worried about her and offered her the money for a taxi after her Corsa broke down. But she wouldn't take it.
"She was very independent and liked walking for the exercise.
"I spoke to her last Wednesday as she walked home from work saying she was bored. In the evening we talked again."

Miss Lawrence last spoke to her parents by telephone on Wednesday evening.
Officers believe she disappeared about 0530 GMT on Thursday after leaving home without money, bank cards or her passport to walk three miles to her job as a chef at the college.
Det Ch Insp Lucy Pope, who was at school with Ms Lawrence, said: "It's certainly a possibility that an abduction could be involved, but I have got nothing to suggest that."
