Ousmane Conte, son of former President Lansana Conte, was last month shown on national television, admitting to smuggling cocaine. Two weeks ago all three men appeared on live television with coup leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara questioning them on the whereabouts of cash allotted to the mine ministry.
Mr Souare was prime minister at the time of former President Lansana Conte's death and three days later he publicly acknowledged the army captain as "Mr president".
Sources close to the audit commission have told the BBC's Alhassan Sillah in the capital Conakry that all three men have been detained in connection with their handling of millions of dollars of mines ministry funds from 1998.
They say:
• Mr Souare, who in 2005 was mines minister, has been asked to account for $2.5m (£1.7m)
• Mr Sylla, who headed the department between 2006 and 2007, is being questioned over the whereabouts of $2m (£1.3m)
• Mr Nabe, who occupied the post just three months before the president's death, has been asked to account for $1.2m (£0.8m)
