A pillion passenger got off a motorbike and ran into the Euro & Wine Food Store in Hornsey Road, Holloway, and shot the younger man in the leg on Sunday night.
When he returned to the motorbike he shot the man's father in the doorway before fleeing the scene. When he returned to the motorbike he shot father-of-three Ahemt Paytak before fleeing the scene.
The father was pronounced dead at the scene and his son was taken to hospital. There have been no arrests. He died at the scene and his son was taken to hospital where condition was described as stable.
The murder victim worked at the store on a part-time basis, and his son was visiting him when the shooting occurred, police said. Mr Paytak and his son had been shot hot while closing up a convenience store, police said.
"We retain an open mind regarding any motive at present," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said. Mr Paytak worked part-time at the store, which was believed to be owned by his brother.
Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. We don't often hear about this sort of attack in London Det Ch Insp Carl Mehta
Description of the suspects has been hampered by the fact that both men were wearing crash helmets. Detectives added they were keeping an open mind into the motives behind the shooting and confirmed they had not yet recovered the murder weapon or identified the motorbike involved.
A post-mortem examination of the 50-year-old man is due to take place later. Det Ch Insp Carl Mehta said that no arrests had as yet been made but officers were examining the scene, near to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, for cartridges and gun casings.
He added that officers were searching through images taken from the shop's CCTV system.
Mr Mehta said it was too early in the investigation to speculate on whether Mr Paytak, his son, or both of them, were the intended targets in the shooting.
"I don't have a motive - obviously I'm keeping a very open mind as to why this has happened," the detective added.
Mr Mehta added that the style of the attack was "unusual".
He said: "We don't often hear about this sort of attack in London."
He also added that there was no evidence of any gangland link to the shooting at this stage.
