Hundreds of homes across Ayrshire are to be demolished and replaced with "affordable" houses during a £6.9m Communities Scotland project.

A total of 380 homes will be built in Vineburgh in Irvine, Shortlees in Kirmarnock and Lochside, in South Ayrshire, with 438 houses demolished.

Des McNulty, deputy communities minister, said the plans would create local jobs and training opportunities.

Homes will be made available mainly for rent with a small number for sale.
