A road in Manchester city centre has been cordoned off after a bag full of bullets was found.

Police said a large quantity of 9mm bullets, suitable for a handgun-type weapon, was discovered by a member of the public.

The ammunition was found in Upper Brook Street near Manchester Royal Infirmary at about 2330 GMT on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the road had been closed to allow officers to carry out a search of the area.
