Thief escapes with antique gems

A handbag containing antique jewellery worth tens of thousands of pounds has been stolen in east Belfast.

The incident occurred shortly after 1530 GMT on Friday when a man snatched the bag from a woman as she walked along Sandown Road.

The robber, who was chased into Hewitt Parade, made off by car in the direction of the Newtownards Road.

He is described as being 5ft 10in, of stocky build and wearing a blue boiler suit.
