Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that Sergei Lavrov went into self-isolation after coming in contact with a Covid-19 positive person. Russia's Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that the country's most senior diplomat Sergei Lavrov has entered self-isolation after coming into contact with a person infected with Covid-19. The veteran minister is 70-years-old.
The official’s previously planned travels and meeting are going to have to be postponed, the ministry said on Tuesday. Lavrov's previously arranged meetings and trips will be postponed, officials confirmed. Like most of Europe, Russia has experienced a dramatic surge in coronavirus cases, in recent weeks. 
“He is feeling well,” the official statement read. “He is feeling well,” a Foreign Ministry statement read. The remarks don't specify with whom Lavrov was in contact. 
Last week, Russian healthcare minister, Mikhail Murashko, also had to enter self-isolation, after one of his family members tested positively for the novel coronavirus. The long-serving minister visited Athens on Monday, where he held talks with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias. He also met with the opposition leader Alexis Tsipras. On Wednesday and Thursday, Lavrov was supposed to travel onwards to Sarajevo and Belgrade, as part of his Balkan tour. 
Russian Federation had more than one and a half million confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to official figures. With over 26 thousand confirmed deaths, Russia has been one of the countries hit hardest by the pandemic in the world. Last week, Russian Health Minister, Mikhail Murashko, also had to go into quarantine, after one of his family members tested positively for the coronavirus.
Russia has registered more than one and a half million confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to official figures. With over 26,000 recorded deaths, the country has been hit hard by the pandemic.
