Tutor spared jail over child sex

An Oxfordshire woman who had sex with a 14-year-old boy with learning difficulties, has been given a 12-month suspended jail sentence. Catherine Armstrong, a special needs tutor, from Thame, met the boy after agreeing to help him with his dyslexia. At Oxford Crown Court the 33-year-old admitted three charges of sexual activity with a child. Sentencing Armstrong, Judge Julian Hall told her: "You now have the chance to rebuild your life." Judge Hall said: "In prison there aren't any facilities for helping female sex offenders. "I don't think you will be a danger in the future. "I'm conscious of the sentencing guidelines but I don't think this kind of case is catered for in them." Armstrong could be jailed for the 12 months if she commits a similar offence within the next two years. |
