The family of an 18-year-old girl who was found murdered on a golf course more than eight years ago have made a fresh appeal to catch her killer.

Rachel Manning's body was found dumped in undergrowth at Woburn Golf Course in Bedfordshire in December 2000.

The murder investigation has been reopened and police have offered a reward of £25,000.

Last year her boyfriend, Barri White, now 29, was cleared of her murder by a jury at Luton Crown Court.

He had spent six years in jail until a retrial was ordered after his case was highlighted by the BBC's Rough Justice programme.

'Mutilated'

At a press conference at Milton Keynes Police Station, Ms Manning's parents, Paul and Liz, appealed for information.

Mrs Manning said: "We can't enjoy special or family occasions any more - a birthday, Christmas, there is always an empty place where our daughter should be."

Mr Manning said: "Rachel was asphyxiated and then her body was moved and dumped in a remote location where it could have lain undiscovered for years.

"The person or persons responsible then mutilated her head and face after death, smashing her skull.

"Someone out there knows who did this and they don't deserve your protection."

Ms Manning went missing in the early hours of Sunday 10 December after a 1960's themed fancy dress party in Bradwell Village Hall, Milton Keynes, she had been to with her boyfriend Barri White.

Her body was found two days later by workmen preparing a new course at the golf club.
