A 43-year-old woman has died following a house fire in County Antrim. The woman who died in a house fire in County Antrim has been named locally as Martina McConnell.
The fire broke out at a house in Smithfield Street, Lisburn, at about 0130 GMT on Monday. She was 43 years old and lived alone in a house at Smithfield Street, Lisburn.
The woman was alone in the house at the time. Mark McGranaghan, Lisburn group commander with the fire service, said she was found upstairs. The fire broke out at her mid-terrace house at about 0130 GMT on Monday. Fire crews rescued her from the first floor bedroom.
"The crew removed her from the upstairs bedroom and handed her to the ambulance service. Our thoughts are with her family now," he said. She was taken to Lagan Valley Hospital where she later died. The fire is not being treated as suspicious but the cause is still under investigation.
There are no indications yet as to how the fire started.
