The bomb was thrown from a motorbike near the Hussein mosque and a well-known bazaar which was crowded with shoppers, police say. The device was thrown from a balcony onto a crowd of people sitting outside the cafe below, police say.
Those injured in the blast included tourists from France and Germany, as well as Egyptians. Initial reports suggested it had been thrown from a motorbike.
