Arrest follows checkpoint breach

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after a car failed to stop at a police checkpoint in Larne on Friday night.

The incident happened at the junction of the Shore Road and Island Road at about 2045 GMT.

Police were stopping vehicles as part of an investigation into an alleged assault in the Point Street area of the town earlier on Friday.

A Red Toyota Corolla was flagged down but failed to stop. The man who was arrested was later released on bail.

The car drove at a female officer, who had to jump out of the way. The officer was not injured but suffered shock.

The car was stopped a short distance away.
