Version 0 of 1.

A British soldier has been arrested after two armoured vehicles were taken from a base in Germany.

It is claimed the soldier took both vehicles off the road, crashing one into a tree, near the Bergen-Hohne base in the north-west of the country.

Royal Military Police are investigating the incident, a Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said.

Reports that the soldier had been drinking could not be confirmed, she added.

One of the armoured vehicles was left about 500 metres from the base while the second hit a tree as it was approached by a Royal Military Police patrol.

The spokeswoman said: "Those who are found to fall short of the Army's high standards are dealt with accordingly.

"This incident is subject to an ongoing investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
