Woman raped near centre of city

Police in south Belfast are investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman near the city centre.

It is understood she was the victim of a serious sexual assault in the area of Franklin Street sometime before 0345 GMT on Friday.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are continuing to examine the scene of the attack and have appealed for witnesses.

They want anyone who was in the Franklin Street, Adelaide Street or Linen Hall Street areas early on Friday to contact detectives at Musgrave Street.
