Police investigating alley blast Bomb team examines object on roof

Police are investigating a blast in an alleyway in south Belfast. The Army is examining a suspicious object found by construction workers on the roof of a building in Greencastle, north Belfast.
A noise was heard from an alleyway in Rutland Street off the Ormeau Road just after 2200 GMT on Wednesday. The Shore Road has been closed due to the ongoing security operation.
The Army were called to the scene and initial inquiries suggest that there had been a small explosion, caused by a device. There were no injuries. In south Belfast, police are continuing to investigate a blast in an alleyway off the Ormeau Road.
In the Dhu Varren area of Portrush, a security alert has been declared a hoax. Fourteen houses at Glendrum Close were evacuated for a time. A noise was heard in Rutland Street just after 2200 GMT on Wednesday. A small explosion had been caused by a device. There were no injuries.
