A dog stranded on a cliff ledge off the Cornish coast may have to remain there for a second night.

Falmouth Coastguard attempted to rescue the collie cross from the ledge near Bude after its owner reported the accident to them.

However the elderly animal, which has an injured back leg, became aggressive and was too vicious to recover, a spokesman said.

It is believed the RSPCA will attempt to sedate the dog on Thursday.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesman said the animal charity was better equipped to deal with such a situation.

"Sadly the dog's not had a good day and it appears to have injured its bad leg which may have made it more aggressive," he told BBC News.
