"This was a planned closure to complete the final surfacing of lanes two and three of the motorway," said a DRD statement. Hundreds of people were held up for hours and some missed flights and ferries as a result.
"The work was completed well within the allocated time and reopened at 1015." "This has been one of the very few occasions when it has been necessary to have a full closure of the road," said Rob Spiers of Roads Service.
"It was essential to allow us to complete the work."
