A 44-year-old man has been detained over an alleged assault on a young girl in an Aberdeenshire town.

The teenage girl, who is under 16, had been reported missing in Huntly on Wednesday morning when she failed to return home from an errand.

Police said the girl was later traced at an address in the town's Bogie Street.

Grampian Police said the man was expected to appear from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday.
