Four of the dead are thought to be from the local area and were travelling in one car - with two in the other. Police said investigators were at the scene and the road was likely to be closed until 1400 GMT while emergency services recovered the bodies. Firefighters from Edwinstowe, Blidworth, Mansfield and Retford were called to the crash - crews are still at the site.
