An inquiry is under way in Bulgaria after a dead Irish tourist's organs were removed and his body filled with sawdust.

The discovery was made during a post mortem examination when the man's body was brought back to Ireland.

His organs were returned to his family a month later, after the intervention of Irish embassy officials in Bulgaria.

The incident, which happened last October, is being investigated by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
