Northern Ireland Water has been fined £2,500 for polluting a tributary of a County Tyrone river in October 2007.

An investigation found that Northern Ireland Water had removed an emergency standby pump.

This meant raw sewage was released into the unnamed tributary of the Drumragh River over a two-week period.

A water sample confirmed the discharge contained poisonous, noxious and polluting matter potentially harmful to fish life in the watercourse.

As well as being fined, NI Water was ordered to pay court costs
