An air and sea search for a scallop fisherman who is thought to have fallen overboard off the Welsh coast has been abandoned. A scallop fisherman who is thought to have fallen overboard off the Welsh coast is a 38-year-old Romanian national, say Coastguards.
Coastguards co-ordinating the hunt for the man in Cardigan Bay said they had received no new information and would not be resuming the search. A search was abandoned on Friday morning after the man disappeared in water about six miles off Cemaes Head, near New Quay, on Thursday afternoon.

"Unfortunately he was not wearing a lifejacket, which hindered his chance of survival, coupled with the fact that the water is very cold at this time of year which also plays a major factor in survivability."
The coastguard abandoned the search on Friday morning saying it had "received no new information at this point".
It said if more information came to light it would resume the hunt for the man.

Bob Reynolds, of the RNLI at Cardigan, said before the search was called off on Thursday night: "Conditions are flat and calm which enabled Cardigan's Atlantic 75 lifeboat to quickly reach the scene and search the area."
