UK soldier dies in Basra shooting | |

A British soldier has died in a "shooting incident" in Basra, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. | |
The soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, died from a gunshot wound on Thursday at the Contingency Operating Base. | |
The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation but it is understood nobody else was involved. The victim's family has been informed. | |
The death brings the total number of UK troops killed in Iraq to 179. | |
In December last year two British servicemen died at the same base from gunshot wounds thought to be self-inflicted. | |
Lance Corporal David Wilson, 27, serving with 9 Regiment Army Air Corps, from West Yorkshire, died from a wound on 4 December. | |
Corporal Lee Churcher, 32, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, died a week later. |
