"We cannot view such an election as legitimate. That is why we, on behalf of the grand alliance, have decided not to participate in the staged election."

Last month, one person was killed and more than 50 others injured in clashes between supporters of rival political groups during a nationwide transport strike called by the Awami League. At least 45 people have been killed and hundreds injured in political violence since the caretaker government took over.
The violence took place in Sylhet in the north-east, where fighting broke out between people at rival rallies.
