SNP prepares to unveil reshuffle SNP in first government reshuffle
(20 minutes later)
The Scottish Government is about to announce a reshuffle, sources at Holyrood have confirmed. Alex Salmond has sacked three ministers from the Scottish Government in his first reshuffle since taking power.
BBC Scotland understands Environment Minister Mike Russell will be promoted, taking over Linda Fabiani's culture brief, plus added responsibilities. Culture minister Linda Fabiani, schools minister Maureen Watt and housing and sport minister Stewart Maxwell have all lost their jobs.
Backbencher Alex Neil is also expected to become a minister. Environment minister Mike Russell has taken over the culture brief and has been replaced by Roseanna Cunningham.
The move was First Minister Alex Salmond's first adjustment of ministerial responsibilities since taking office in May 2007. Backbencher Alex Neil is the new communities minister, while Keith Brown was made schools minister.
It is anticipated that the reshuffle will not involve cabinet secretaries.
