Scotland energy staff end protest
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/scotland/7871474.stm Version 0 of 1. Workers at the Longannet power station in Fife have ended their unofficial protest over the use of foreign staff. Bobby Buirds of the Unite union confirmed that about 400 disgruntled staff had voted to return to the plant on Thursday morning. The UK-wide dispute began at Lindsey Oil Refinery in Lincolnshire when workers complained about overseas labour being used at their plant. The dispute escalated with thousands of energy employees downing tools. The wildcat strikes affected more than 20 sites in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Grangemouth refinery, Cockenzie power station and the Mossmorran chemical plant in Fife had all joined the action, but have since gone back to work. |
