Version 0 of 1.

Police are investigating after a five-week old girl, born prematurely, died of a suspected glucose overdose.

Poppy Davies died on Sunday night at Great Ormond Street children's hospital in central London following a build-up of glucose in her blood.

A hospital spokesman said they called in the police following Poppy's death and a glucose overdose was suspected.

The Metropolitan Police (Met) said its child abuse investigation team had been probing the case since January.

No-one has been arrested, he added.

'Tragic death'

A spokesman for the hospital said: "The trust offers its sincere condolences to the family on this tragic death.

"The police are investigating and when we find out what went wrong we will share that with the family.

"Obviously we need to find out what happened so that we can ensure it does not happen again."

The spokesman added that a "glucose overdose is suspected".

A Met spokesman said: "We confirmed in January that officers from the MPS Child Abuse Investigation Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding a possible injury to a baby.

"Our inquiries continue at the moment and we are not prepared to discuss this further."

An inquest into the infant's death will open at St Pancras Coroner's Court on Thursday.
