An articulated lorry and a van collided just before 0700 GMT between Hook and Farnborough on the M3. A light goods lorry and a Mercedes van collided just before 0700 GMT between Hook and Farnborough on the M3.
Motorists have said the lorry was on its side and the van was on fire, although police said the flames had since been extinguished. The lorry toppled over causing its driver serious injuries. The van caught fire but its driver and passenger suffered only minor injuries.
The M3 northbound is expected to be closed between junctions 5 and 4a until at least 1300 GMT. The van driver was arrested for suspected dangerous driving. One lane northbound was reopened before midday.
No other details were available from Hampshire Police. The crash happened between junctions 5 and 4a.
