Rafael Benitez has claimed Bolton are shown too much leniency by referees ahead of Liverpool's latest match against Sam Allardyce's team.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admitted the 3-0 victory at home to Bolton was just what the club needed.
Anfield boss Benitez has long been a critic of what he sees as Bolton's overly-physical style of play.
Gerrard, who was awarded an MBE in the New Year`s Honours List, said: "It was the perfect start to the new year and we played some really good football.
"Bolton could not play this way in Spain," he said in the build-up to their New Year's Day meeting.
"It's been a great week for me personally but personal things are put on one side when you go onto the pitch.
"Every free-kick, corner and throw-in would be a foul, but here it's not. They know this and take advantage."
"My goal was really nice. I was really quiet second half but I was pleased with the goal," he added.
The Spaniard's latest attack on Bolton's tactics is clearly aimed at referee Graham Poll, who takes charge at Anfield on Monday.
When you are up against Bolton, the key man is the referee Rafael Benitez
Benitez said: "Each player or team has an idea of how they want to win, but the rules are the same for every one.
"It is up to my players to show character. We have players who can deal with it but a lot depends on the experience of the referee."
He said he is particularly concerned about the way Bolton's players will seek to put pressure on goalkeeper Pepe Reina at set-pieces.
"Pepe is really good in the air, but I have seen two or three players around the keeper sometimes. This is a foul - it's a direct free kick, simple as that.
