Assembly members are to debate a controversial proposal to give the families of all those killed during the Troubles £12,000.

The DUP has put down a motion for debate on Monday.

The payment was recommended in a report by the group set up to advise on how best to deal with the legacy of Northern Ireland's past.

Lord Eames, one of the authors of the report, said it was time for a "final step out of conflict".

The Consultative Group on the Past's 190-page report contains more than 30 recommendations.

"We know that one size does not fit all and we are not imposing a one size fits all approach," continued Lord Eames.

"But we are recommending... one package that offers many different options for individuals and communities."
