Detectives investigating the killing of a Big Issue seller in Dundee have described the crime as a "particularly violent murder".

The body of Patrick McDade, 37, was found at his flat in the city's Brown Constable Street on Friday.

Officers from Tayside Police are carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area to try to piece together his last movements.

They are urging anyone who may have seen him before he died to call them.

Mr McDade, known locally as Paddy, had sold the Big Issue in Dundee for seven years and had a regular pitch outside Marks and Spencer in Seagate.

'Well-liked'

Det Ch Insp Willie Semple, the senior investigating officer, said: ''The last positive sighting we have of Paddy is around 6pm on Saturday 17 January when he left his pitch in the Seagate and was seen walking through Dundee City Centre.

"We then have CCTV footage of him walking in Panmure Street towards the Wellgate Centre.

"At that time he was wearing dark coloured clothing and a white woollen hat with a black bobble attached to it."

Mr Semple said the force was trying to find out where Mr McDade went after that and how he spent his weekend.

He added: "It's not known whether he took a bus or taxi from the city centre or whether he walked back home to his flat in Brown Constable Street.

''This has been a particularly violent murder of a well-known and well-liked Big Issue seller in the city.

"If anyone has any information that may assist us to catch whoever is responsible for Paddy's death then I would urge them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.''
