The late Heath Ledger won the best supporting actor award for his portrayal of the Joker in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight.
His prize was accepted by his co-star, Gary Oldman.
And Hugh Laurie won the title for best actor in a drama series for House.
Laurie, who picked up the award for a second time, said: "This is amazing."
