Butlins holiday company has unveiled its plans for a new hi-tech hotel that will cost £20m to build.

The Ocean Hotel in Bognor Regis will cost a fifth of the £100m the company has spent on modernising and updating its facilities since 2003.

Opening in August, the 200-room hotel will have colour change lighting and balconies overlooking the sea and South Downs of West Sussex.

Butlins says bookings for this year are already higher than last.

The BBC's Alison Harper says the increase in the company's bookings is an indication that the state of the economy and weak pound could encourage more people to holiday in Britain this summer.

A feature of the new hotel will be family rooms where children who are scared of the dark can go to sleep with blue-glow lighting.

Butlins managing director Richard Bates said: "The modern-era Butlins is a unique mix of quality accommodation and entertainment that guests love."
