Coach driver charged over deaths

The driver of a coach which was involved in a crash in North Yorkshire in which a couple were killed has been charged with manslaughter. Paul and Deborah Clements, of Rawmarsh, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, died after the crash near Staxton last September. The coach driver, a 52-year-old man from Staffordshire, is charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one of manslaughter. A 60-year-old man from Staffordshire is also charged with manslaughter. Both men have been bailed to appear before Scarborough magistrates on 2 February. Two other people who were arrested in connection with the crash, a 38-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, also from the Staffordshire area, are still on police bail. The incident left the Clements' 16-year-old son orphaned. Six passengers on the coach, which was taking adults and children to a marching band competition in Scarborough, also suffered minor injuries. |
