The dead included six women and, according to one report, a child. The incident, late on Thursday night, happened in a village near the town of Balad Ruz, north of Baghdad, in the province of Diyala. The area has seen some of the worst recent violence with security forces and tribal militiamen fighting Sunni insurgents reportedly tied to al-Qaeda. The Reuters news agency reported that the attackers then abducted two other family members, a man and woman, from the house in the village of Maamil. |
