A gang which has used the same tactics to rob elderly householders in an area of East Sussex over the last two months is being hunted by police.

In the most recent case, on Wednesday evening, up to five offenders forced their way into a property in Upper Horsebridge, on the main A271 road.

Four other robberies took place over a period of two weeks during November at locations near to the A22.

None of the victims were injured in the raids, which netted cash and jewellery.

'Appalling attack'

An e-fit of one of the offenders in the most recent robbery has been released by police.

The man has mid-length shaggy hair and prominent dark eyebrows.

Wealden District Commander Ch Insp Neil Honnor described it as "an appalling attack on an elderly man".

"Thankfully these are very rare cases, but it is essential that we catch this group as soon as possible," he said.

Any witnesses who saw either four or five offenders entering or leaving the house on the A271 at about 1930 GMT on Wednesday, or who saw their vehicle parked on the main road or verge, are asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
