Nightclub 'incident' stops trams Man dies outside city nightclub
(about 7 hours later)
Part of Nottingham city centre's tram network has been closed after police officers were called to an incident outside a nightclub. A 19-year-old man has died after being found with serious head injuries outside a Nottingham nightclub.
Police have cordoned off an area outside the club, but will not yet say what happened. It is understood one person was taken to hospital. Officers found the man at about 0315 GMT on Sunday, unconscious, on Goldsmith Street outside the Halo club.
A spokesman said: "We are currently dealing with an incident outside Halo nightclub in Goldsmith Street. He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination will be carried out at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
"This has resulted in the closure of the tram line." Five men have been arrested in connection with the incident and anyone with information should contact police.
East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it had attended at about 0330 GMT on Sunday and had taken one patient to the Queen's Medical Centre. The tram lines on Goldsmith Street have been closed since the incident happened to allow forensic tests to be carried out. They are expected to re-open later on Sunday.
Nottingham Express Transit said tram services had been suspended between Forest Recreation Ground and Station Street. A replacement bus service is operating.
Police said the tram service was likely to resume later on Sunday.
