Doctors in Nepal have returned to work after a two-day strike in protest at recent attacks on them.

The doctors called off their strike following talks with the government on Thursday evening in which they were offered greater security.

On Monday, angry protestors had manhandled doctors and vandalised a hospital in Kathmandu.

The protestors accused the doctors of negligence leading to the death of a baby. Doctors denied the allegation.

Sudha Sharma, chairman of the Nepal Medical Association, said that doctors had also agreed to set up a committee to take complaints from patients and relatives about doctors.

Allegations of negligence in hospitals and attacks on doctors have been relatively common in recent months.
