University students who graduate this year are likely to face a shortage of jobs because of the economic downturn, a new survey suggests.

The survey of 1,000 companies, a third of which operate in NI, predicts a fall of 17% in graduate recruitment.

That has added to cutbacks last year when companies took on 7% fewer new graduates than the previous year.

High Fliers Research group, said this looked like one of the worst years of the last two decades to be graduating.

However, those who manage to get a job could well get salaries 6% higher than last year.
