Stabbing death 'domestic related' Hunt after father and son stabbed
(about 4 hours later)
A manhunt is continuing in Wirral after the death of a 45-year-old man who was stabbed during a disturbance. Detectives have identified a man they are hunting over a double stabbing on Merseyside that left a man dead and his son seriously injured.
Graham McKenna was on Speedwell Road, Claughton, on Saturday afternoon when he was attacked, police said. Gary Finlay, 46, has been missing since the attack on Graham McKenna, 45, and his 14-year-old son in Claughton, Wirral, on Saturday afternoon.
Mr McKenna and his 14-year-old son, who was also stabbed, were both taken to hospital but he later died. The boy is in a serious but stable condition. Both were found collapsed with stab wounds and taken to hospital, where the boy remains in a serious condition.
Merseyside Police are hunting a third man over the killing, which they have described as "domestic related". Mr Finlay is considered dangerous and should not be approached, police said.
He is described as white, aged in his 40s, of stocky build, around 5ft 8ins tall, balding and wearing a black and dark grey padded jacket. Detectives believe that Mr McKenna and his son were walking towards a bus stop on Upton Road when they were attacked.
The scene was cordoned off and searched on Saturday night, while officers maintained a heavy presence in the area. Knife wounds
Area Commander for Wirral, Ch Supt Jon Ward said: "I would directly appeal to members of the local community to come forward with any information that could assist Merseyside Police. Both were found collapsed with stab wounds on nearby Speedwell Road by officers called to reports of a fight.
"For their reassurance there will be a significantly increased police presence in the area, and I would encourage local people to talk to those officers about any concerns or information they may have." Merseyside Police said both were attacked with a knife and received stab wounds to the abdomen.
It is believed their attacker got into a Honda car afterwards and drove towards Bidston Hill. The car has since been recovered.
Police maintained a heavy presence after the incident
Detectives have described the attack as a "domestic and targeted" incident.
The scene was cordoned off on Saturday afternoon and police maintained a heavy presence in the area, conducting house-to-house inquiries.
On Sunday, detectives revealed the man they were looking for in connection with the attack was Mr Finlay, from Prenton.
A spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police must stress that we firmly believe that Gary McKenna may pose a risk to members of the public and I would urge any members of the public who has seen him to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 immediately."
Mr Finlay is described as a white, 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build, with blue eyes. He is balding and was last seen wearing a black and dark grey padded jacket.
Members of the public are advised not to approach him.
