Man who died in house fire named

The 54-year-old man who died in a house fire in Bessbrook on Boxing night has been named locally as Edgar McConnell.

Mr McConnell lived in the house at College Square West with his elderly mother.

Despite receiving treatment from paramedics, the victim died at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service it was thought the fire started accidently and may have been caused by a candle.
