Ronaldo to be quizzed over crash

Cristiano Ronaldo is to be questioned by police after he crashed his Ferrari in a tunnel near Manchester Airport.

The Manchester United forward wrote off the Â£200,000 car when he crashed into a barrier on Altrincham Road, between Wilmslow and Hale, on Thursday.

The front edge of the red sports car was demolished and one of the wheels came off, but Ronaldo escaped unhurt.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman confirmed officers would be speaking to the player in due course.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses to contact them.

United's goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar, had been travelling behind him in his Bentley at the time of the crash, at 1020 GMT.

Ronaldo gave a negative breath test to police

Police spoke to Ronaldo at the scene, where he provided a negative breath test.

He will be asked to speak to officers investigating the crash again as part of routine inquiries.

Manchester United confirmed that the Portuguese player, who lives in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, was unhurt and turned up for training on Thursday.

Ronaldo came on as a substitute when United lost at Derby County on Wednesday night and is due to play for the club against Chelsea on Sunday.
