Major fire closes commuter route | |

More than 60 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a commercial property which has led to the closure of a key commuter route in East Yorkshire. | |
The premises of building contractors Teckno Developments in Bishop Burton, near Beverley, were well alight when fire crews arrived just after 0230 GMT. | |
Some nearby properties have been evacuated and fire officers said the building was near to collapse. | |
The A1079 Hull to York road has been closed, causing long tailbacks. | |
The route is closed in both directions between the Killingwoldgraves roundabout and Bishop Burton. | |
Police are diverting traffic through Cherry Burton via Dog Kennel Lane. | |
Dave Fisher, from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We have got the fire under control now, but it is a serious fire and we will be here for most of the day I suspect. | |
"We've not been right through the building as yet due to the partial collapse of the building, but we have no reports of anybody being trapped." |
