Russia’s 5th-gen Su-57 fighter jet crashes during factory trials, pilot safely ejects – reports Russia’s 5th-gen Su-57 fighter jet crashes during factory engine trials, pilot safely ejects – reports
(32 minutes later)
One of Russia’s cutting-edge Su-57 fighter jets reportedly crashed and burned during engine trials near the Komsomolsk-on-Amur aircraft plant.
The pilot ejected safely and was picked up by a Mi-8 rescue helicopter, sources told local media. The crashed jet's backboxes are yet to be recovered.
The 5th-gen Sukhoi Su-57 (manufacturer’s internal name T-50) plane has been in trials since 2010 and finally entered serial production only this year. So far, Russia has only a handful of operational Su-57s that were manufactured during the pre-production period.
The aircraft, however, has been already tested in real combat conditions, briefly taking part in Russia’s anti-terrorism campaign in Syria.
