A local cheese producer is hoping people in America and Canada will soon be enjoying its products.

Fivemiletown Creamery has secured an order worth $70,000 with a US supermarket chain to supply its Ballybrie and Ballyblue cheeses.

The creamery said the contract with Safeway could be worth up to $250,000 next year.

The firm's Peter Dunlop said it could only produce a certain amount and it was had to seek high value markets.

"With the obvious Irish connection in the United States and our long history of supplying delicatessens and the high value restaurant sectors, it was an obvious area for us to move into," he said.
