A person was killed in a single-vehicle crash along Indian Head Highway in Maryland, officials said. A Navy police officer was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Charles County, officials said.

The person's name was not immediately released, pending the notification of family. Police said the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a pole before catching fire. Police said a Ford Taurus went off the road for “unknown reasons” and crashed into a tree, which fell on top of the car, and the vehicle caught on fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Some of the roads in the area were closed during the morning as the crash remained under investigation. Some of the roads in the area were closed for roughly four hours.
Authorities later identified the driver as Anthony Oglesby Jr., 34, of Bowie, Md.
State police said in a statement that Oglesby was a sergeant for the U.S. Navy Police and was on duty at the time. He was driving a marked patrol car.
The incident remains under investigation. Police said his body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
