Dead model had made sex complaint
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/manchester/7799272.stm Version 0 of 1. A model who plunged to her death in Manchester had alleged she had been sexually assaulted months earlier, detectives have said. Sahar Daftary, from London, fell 150ft (46m) from the 12th storey of the NV Buildings on Salford Quays on Saturday. The 23-year-old had been collecting belongings after her relationship with boyfriend, Rashid Jamil, 33, ended. Police said Ms Daftary made a complaint earlier in 2008, but that she had then decided not to pursue the matter. On Wednesday, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police received a report of sexual assault in May 2008. "An investigation was launched but the victim refused to co-operate further." The former Face of Asia winner was in Manchester to appear on the catwalk at a fashion show at an Indian restaurant on Saturday evening - but cancelled at the last minute, saying she was sick, said police. The NV buildings - designed to look like sails - were among the first luxury apartments to be built at the former docklands development. A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder but has been bailed until 13 February pending further police inquiries. |
