Two lorry loads of unexploded fireworks have been removed from the scene of a fire and blast which killed two people.

The Health and Safety Executive said others remained at the Festival fireworks UK Ltd site, in East Sussex, but they were "safe and secure".

"Work will resume to continue to remove the fireworks in the New Year," an HSE spokeswoman said.

Two fire service staff, Brian Wembridge and Geoff Wicker, were killed in an explosion on 3 December.

Funerals for the two men have been held in the East Sussex villages where they lived.

An investigation is ongoing to try to establish the cause of the fire and explosion at the fireworks depot, at Marley Farm, Shortgate, near Lewes.

The HSE said police officers would remain on the site for security reasons over the Christmas period, but the remaining fireworks were not a cause for concern.
