Armed police called to casualty

Armed police officers were called to the accident and emergency (A & E) department of a Nottingham hospital after a man threatened staff.

The man, who claimed he had a weapon, started demanding treatment in the early hours of Saturday at the Queen's Medical Centre.

The A&E department was evacuated while six armed officers with a police dog entered the building.

No shots were fired and a man was arrested and taken into custody.

Police could not confirm whether a weapon was recovered at the scene.
