A pedestrian is in a stable condition in hospital after being hit by a police van in Cardiff.

The woman, 33, was hurt at a junction in Roath at 09.53 GMT on Saturday.

South Wales Police, who are appealing for witnesses, said the marked van was travelling along Newport Road through the junction with Elm Street, which is traffic light controlled.

The woman is being treated for fractures on her right side at the University Hospital of Wales.

Officers said the incident happened on the eastbound carriageway.

They said the police vehicle was travelling through the junction and the pedestrian was approaching the junction from the Elm Street direction.
